Get a 30% transfer bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards to Iberia Avios.

Offer expires on Sep 27, 2026

There are identical transfer bonuses on now to both British Airways and Aer Lingus Avios and British Airways are the most common / easy to use and link directly with Qatar so there are few people that would want to transfer to Iberia directly.

They ripped out their award charts in May 2025 and replaced them with new higher ones and the biggest Iberia Sweet Spot of US East Coast to Madrid in business class off peak for 34,000 Avios is now 40,500 Avios and at peak times it’s now 50,000 to 59,000 Avios.  This is the 3,001–4,000 mileage band.

This still remains about the only award you would book with Iberia (you may find other instances where Iberia remains cheaper on its own metal) but keep in mind the biggest flaw of the Iberia program:

Award travel on partner airlines booked with Iberia Avios is non-refundable!!

That said, generally you want to move your points to British Airways first for the most flexibility – since you can move from there to Finnair, which has some great redemptions, or Qatar (note new restrictions on booking Qatar awards beyond yourself). I just booked an actual Iberia award and I’ll add that the website is full of glitches that can make booking even an Iberia award on Iberia quite painful.

See this post on the transfer bonus to British Airways Avios for more on the Finnair program.

Reminder: We now maintain an incredibly comprehensive Transfer Partner Matrix that tracks not just where every currency transfers but also notes any current transfer bonuses.

Get a 30% transfer bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards to Aer Lingus Avios.

Offer expires on Sep 27, 2026

Aer Lingus has some sweet spots as well, like the US to Ireland for 13,000 – 16,250 Avios with no surcharges or 50,000 Avios – 62,500 Avios each way in Business Class. This would be if you find space on Aer Lingus metal. The lower pricing is from the East Coast, the higher is West Coast.

Combinable with other Avios programs like BA on the avios.com website.

That said, generally you want to move your points to British Airways first for the most flexibility – since you can move from there to Finnair, which has some great redemptions, or Qatar – (note new restrictions on booking Qatar awards beyond yourself) – or Iberia.

Get a 30% transfer bonus when you transfer American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways Avios.

Offer expires on Sep 27, 2026

Get 30% more Avios when you transfer Membership Rewards® points through 9/27/2026.

See historical transfer bonuses to British Airways Avios. 30% is the midpoint of the range.Frequent Avios users with large Membership Rewards balances will probably want to use this to top us.

British Airways Avios used to be best for shorthaul flights on Oneworld carriers but recent changes have killed that. Where a flight from New York to Toronto (under 650 miles) used to be as little as 4,500 miles in years past, it’s now 12,000 miles. I mention this as some people may not realize this has all changed.

However, you can still transfer these miles over to Qatar Airways Avios where that same flight would be 6,000 miles as they price those like this: 0–650 miles: 6,000 Avios (Economy) / 12,500 Avios (Business). Note the new restrictions on booking Qatar awards beyond yourself.

And that’s the thing – you can transfer these Avios to any other Avios program airline.

Also – outside of the US, BA still prices flights under 650 miles (i.e. SYD-MEL on Qantas) at 6,000 miles in Economy and only 12,500 miles in Business – hello, sweet spot!

BA does have a very favorable lap infant policy – 10% of the miles paid for the adult fare.

Beware their draconian surcharges on long haul awards.

Advanced Mode: Transfer to Finnair’s Avios program which has sweet spots like 62,500 Avios and less than $200 from the US to Finland on Finnair and, (available only by phone or chat) amazing deals on AA transcons. If you can find JFK-LAX/SFO with an available Saver seat in 3-Cabin First (Z class), it’s yours for just 40,000 Finnair Avios. Traveling within the EU in business class (yes, the standard economy seat with the middle blocked, but premium services) is also a steal on Finnair. Note those AA three cabin transcontinental flights are being phased out.

This is a nearly 2 month long transfer bonus so you have time to decide…

Reminder: We now maintain an incredibly comprehensive Transfer Partner Matrix that tracks not just where every currency transfers but also notes any current transfer bonuses.

Cons

  • High annual fee that will require a bit of work to fully maximize.
  • Besides airfare and select hotels, it's not the best card to use for other purchases as it only earns 1X on categories outside of flights booked directly with the airlines (5X) or through the Amex Travel portal (5X on up to $500,000 of airfare purchases per calendar year) and 5X points for prepaid hotels booked with Amex Travel.

Instant Transfers as well as solid transfer partners. The value would go up if they had any hotel partners with a fair exchange rate. ANA (an exception to instant transfers), Virgin, Air Canada and Avianca are top airline partners for maximizing your points. They can also transfer to Delta if you wish and while the rates aren't ideal, they can transfer to Marriott and Hilton as well.  The stated value also assumes you will take advantage of transfer partners rather than book via their booking portal, where they are only worth 1 cent (in most cases). We've also created a Guide to American Express Membership Rewards.

🎁 Bonus offer

Earn 100,000 bonus points after you spend $6,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
Get a 20% transfer bonus when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to Air Canada Aeroplan.

Offer expires on Sep 30, 2026

Get 20% bonus Aeroplan® points when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards® points between 12:00 AM ET on August 12, 2026 and 11:59 PM ET on September 30, 2026.

Chase Aeroplan Cardmembers can get up to 30% bonus Aeroplan points (20% from the limited time offer and an extra 10% for being a Cardmember). To get the additional 10% bonus, Chase Aeroplan Cardmembers need to transfer a minimum of 50,000 points or more from Chase Ultimate Rewards® to Aeroplan, up to a maximum of 25,000 bonus Aeroplan points per calendar year.

I suggest reviewing historical transfer bonuses from Chase and American Express to Air Canada Aeroplan as you might find that bonuses are more common than you think. 20% is the “standard” offer we see the most, though Chase did offer a flat 30% in late 2022.

Aeroplan sweet spots: No fuel surcharges; just a $39CAD booking fee. Lap infant just $25CAD. Can book Star Alliance flights as well as partners like Etihad and Emirates. Add a stopover for just 5,000 miles! Award pricing is not necessarily the best there is, but is consistently fair.

A business class award on a partner (not on Air Canada metal as that is dynamically priced) from the East Coast to Europe would be 70,000 points (as an example), which would be 56,000 Chase points with this promotion.

It’s worth noting that Blackstone is taking a minority stake in Aeroplan and private equity investments don’t tend to align with what’s best for the customer, so I’d be extra cautious about speculative transfers here.

Get up to a 100% transfer bonus when you transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG One Rewards.

Offer expires on Aug 31, 2026

Early birds get more points! Get 100% Bonus IHG One Rewards points when you transfer Ultimate Rewards points between 12:00 AM ET on July 15, 2026 and 11:59 PM ET on July 30, 2026.

When the Early Bird offer ends, get 70% Bonus IHG One Rewards points when you transfer Ultimate Rewards points between 12:00 AM ET on July 31, 2026 and 11:59 PM ET on August 31, 2026. Bonus points will be awarded by IHG in your IHG One Rewards account after your transfer is complete.

There have been six transfer bonuses from Chase to IHG One Rewards in 2025 early 2026. One was 100%, two were 80%, and three were 70%.

We value IHG Rewards points at 0.4 cents and Chase Ultimate Rewards at 1.75 cents, so this is far from a slam dunk and we’d advise to only transfer if you’ve already found a great redemption. Even at 100%, you are only getting, on average, 0.8 cents for each Ultimate Rewards point!

You may be looking to “top up” an existing IHG Rewards balance for a reward stay and this would be an opportune time.

But as a general rule, we find that one Chase Ultimate Rewards point is at least 4 times more valuable than  IHG Rewards points, so, again, do your homework before transferring and make sure you have a deal lined up – ideally using the 4th night free benefit from a co-branded credit card.

Transfers take less than a day (most likely less than a few hours, but not instant), although note that IHG is adding the bonus on their side so there could be a delay.

Earn 75,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

Delta uses a fully dynamic pricing model on most awards, with the program aiming to offer you about 1.1 to 1.2 cents per point. However, you can still occasionally get much more value, especially during SkyMiles Flash Sales. Note that while you can book SkyTeam alliance flights with Delta SkyMiles, you cannot book international First Class on any SkyMiles partner.

🎁 Bonus offer

Earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening.
Get a 15% transfer bonus when you transfer Capital One Miles to Avianca LifeMiles.

Starts August 1st
Offer expires on Aug 31, 2026

This bonus begins on August 1st at 12am ET, lasting until August 31st at 11:59 ET, and is posted on the LifeMiles website here.

We see these quite frequently (See all historical transfer bonuses to Avianca LifeMiles) and I’m going to as unenthusiastic here as always when it comes to fairly small. bonuses to LifeMiles.

Avianca has really been messing with its program lately. They’ve devalued twice in the last 9 months, although in the most recent devaluation all sorts of quirks emerged with pricing. For instance a business class ticket from the US to/from Europe could be 69,000 miles or it could be 80,000 miles.

All of the same issues I’ve always had around Lifemiles customer service remain. I don’t want to ever have to deal with a schedule change than needs a ticket reissued with them again, and sometimes the website shows phantom availability and phone agents are often unable to help after incredibly long hold times.

It’s worth knowing that miles transferred do count towards elite status with Avianca, however it’s not as easy as you’d think. At 20 miles per elite qualifying mile, to get to the Star Alliance Gold equivalent level, you’d need to transfer 480,000 miles and earn 12,000 qualifying miles on Avianca metal flights. So, it’s not easy at all. I guess this would cut.the first part by 15%…

It's worth noting that some Capital One cards earn 2 miles per dollar on everything, making the 1.6 cent per mile value an understatement as you'd be earning a 3.2% yield on every day spend. However, this assumes you will learn how to utilize the Capital One airline and hotel transfer partners, most of which transfer 1:1. The minimum value is 1 cent when used to book travel in their portal or to  cover previously paid for travel, however, our calculator assumes you will use Capital One's air and hotel transfer partners when calculating a 1.6 cent per point value. Hyatt award rates range from 5,000 to 75,000 points per night at their regular hotels and resorts. At all-inclusive resorts and Miraval, the prices can reach as high as 85,000 - 95,000 points per night.  You can even book Suites for incrementally more points (Premium Suite costs twice as much as a room, for example). I tend to find these are one of the best ways to spend Chase Ultimate Rewards points which transfer 1:1. They are the only major hotel program in the US with fixed award charts making it a great program to be able to set goals for your redemptions.. We used to always get 2+ cents per point in value and had valued points at 1.7 cents on average, however the most recent valuation took a toll with some room rates roughly doubling at peak times.

While Marriott Bonvoy dropped all award charts in favor of a dynamic pricing system, it hasn't gotten out of hand and the 5th night free on awards can still provide outsized value. It's also hard to beat the breadth of Marriott Bonvoy properties all over the world. That said, the prices have gone up and up again, and the ever increasing resort fees are not waived on Bonvoy award nights, which does draw the point value down.
