NOTES: Virgin Flying Club has moved to a dynamic pricing for awards. In some cases we are seeing extreme value like 29,000 point Business Class awards from the US to London. In other cases, the prices have risen dramatically. Run some searches before transferring.
It’s also worth Virgin Atlantic transfer bonuses are fairly frequent between various programs. See historical transfer bonuses to Virgin Atlantic here. This is the 9th transfer bonus in the last year from a bank program to Virgin Atlantic. As you can see, it’s nearly always 30% with unicorns for 40%.
If we isolate to just Citi ThankYou to Virgin Atlantic Transfer Bonuses, it’s always 30%.
Best Uses of Virgin Flying Club points:
Two great uses are domestically on Delta within the US or US-Mexico/Canada and for economy flights to/from Europe that are as few as 12,000 miles each way on partners such as KLM or Delta.
If you could actually find a Delta One award FROM Europe to the US, it would be just 50,000 points. Availability is a unicorn. Unfortunately, awards TO Europe on Delta now cost more and have $1,000 + surcharges). Virgin Atlantic can also book Air France and KLM flights as well as other SkyTeam alliance airlines.
The other, well known, “best use” is to book ANA First and Business class awards:
Note that you can also book these ANA awards as one way for half the points. Search on United and then call Virgin to book.
Transfer ThankYou Points to Virgin Flying Club or Virgin Red and receive a 30% Bonus in Virgin Points. Offer is valid for Point Transfers to Virgin Points completed by 11:59 PM ET November 16, 2024.
Note that there is currently a 40% transfer bonus from Chase to Virgin Atlantic until Nov 30,. 2024.
CAVEAT: Beginning October 30th, 2024, Virgin Flying Club will move to a dynamic pricing for awards. Historically this has never been good news as higher priced times that you would get higher value from awards become more expensive with points. If you are transferring during the first two weeks of this bonus, you have time before the switch. We aren’t 100% sure if the dynamic pricing will apply only to Virgin metal awards or a wider swath of awards.
Virgin Atlantic transfer bonuses are fairly frequent between various programs. See historical transfer bonuses to Virgin Atlantic here. Excluding Bilt’s one-day 100% bonus on Sept 1st, other bonuses this year have been 30% except for the current 40% bonus from Chase.

The other, well known, “best use” is to book ANA First and Business class awards.
As always, your best uses are to fly Delta One to Europe (excluding England) for 50,000 miles – IF you can find available award space and to book ANA First and Business class awards.
Business Class on ANA to Japan would be 35,000 – 37,000 points while First Class would be 56,000 – 66,000 points (depending on if you are on the West Coast (cheaper) or East Coast.
One more great use is domestically on Delta within the US or US-Mexico/Canada from 7,500 Virgin points.

Best used to book ANA First Class for 42,500 – 47,500 Chase points (30% bonus). For First Class, round trip, you’ll pay 85,000 Amex points from the West Coast or 93,000 Amex points from the East Coast. The transfer bonus will give you the 110,000 (West Coast) – 120,000 (East Coast) Virgin miles required for the trip. One way flights are now allowed, thus my 42.5k – 47.5k range each way.
Also great for US-Europe redemptions on Delta which price at 50,000 miles if you can find space, and for domestic US redemptions.
