While it’s always hard to recommend speculative transfers, Hilton points have gotten more attractive since integrating SLH hotels into Hilton Honors (See Dave’s musing about his thinking on how Hilton points may be becoming more valuable and this more recent article about the extreme value in SLH and other high end Hilton brands.). The integration is already providing exceptional value at properties with rates in the $1,000 – $2,000 a night range for, on average, 130,000 points a night. So, it appears his musing has become a reality.
And as long as you have at least the lowest tier Hilton status, the 5th night is free on any award and resort fees are also waived on award stays.
We value an Amex point at 1.7 cents and a Hilton point at 0.5 cents and while those values are an average, with a 5th night free award you can definitely do well transferring 1,000 Amex points for 2,500 Hilton Honors points.
Our advice is to run some sample searches for potential redemptions to see the value you’re likely to get before transferring.
For context on the size of this bonus, since 2022 Amex has had 6 transfer bonuses to Hilton. A 40% one for Platinum Card holders only last year and the other 5 were 30%, 25%, 30%, 30%, and 30%. So this is in line with a standard offer that Amex offers 2 to 3 times a year.
The transfer bonus promotion is active from March 1st, 2025 at 12:00am ET until March 1st 2025, 11:59pm PT in the Bilt Rewards app or website.
Bilt Blue members will receive a 150% transfer bonus (1 Bilt = 2.5 Hilton Honors) and Bilt Silver, Gold, and Platinum members will receive 200% (1 Bilt = 3 Hilton Honors)
Note that while this may appear to trounce the current transfer bonus from American Express Membership Rewards to Hilton Honors, Hilton defaults to a 1:2 transfer ratio while Bilt is only 1:1.
For example, under the current Amex 25% bonus, due to the default rate being double Bilt’s, this equals 2.5 Hilton Honors for 1 Amex point – or the same as Bilt’s base bonus. Silver/Gold/Platinum are getting 0.5 more points than this, but are also trading much more valuable Bilt points.
I think this only likely makes sense if you are short on Hilton points and don’t have Amex points to transfer either.

For context on the size of this bonus, since 2022 Amex has had 5 transfer bonuses to Amex. A 40% one for Platinum Card holders only early this year and the other 4 were 30%, 25%, 30% and 30%. So this is in line with a standard offer that Amex offers 2 to 3 times a year.
** For personal Amex Platinum cardholders only **
Platinum Card® Members get 40% more Hilton Honors™ Points when you transfer Membership Rewards® points through from May 9 to May 31. Offer is only available to current Platinum Card Members on a Platinum Account opened on or before April 20, 2024. Terms apply.
Please note: This transfer bonus is part of the American Express 40th Birthday celebration for The Platinum Card® from American Express. Only personal U.S. Platinum Card® cardholders are eligible. It seems that those holding personal Platinum cards like the Schwab Platinum Card are elso eligible – however, many people that are eligible are not seeing the offer in their account so make sure you see the 40% bonus before transfering!

Never say never. While Amex points are worth about a third of an Amex point, this promotion closes the gap pretty well. If you are booking a 5 night standard room award stay where the 5th night is free, the math could work in your favor.

Useful for topping off your account, especially 5th night free. Not worthwhile in most other cases but do the math vs. a paid reservation.
