One Day Rent Day Transfer Bonus

Get up to a 125% transfer bonus when you transfer Bilt Rewards to Amtrak Guest Rewards.

For Rent Day this month, you can get a nice transfer bonus on their newest transfer partner, Amtrak Guest Rewards. The normal ratio is 1:2, so note that a 100% bonus would equate to a 1:1 transfer.

  • Blue: 25% bonus
  • Silver: 50% bonus
  • Gold: 75% bonus
  • Platinum: 100% bonus
  • $400 Bilt Cash buys you up a tier or at Platinum to 125%.
  • Maximum number of transferred points eligible for a bonus: 100,000

For Platinum even without a buy up, this means you can transfer 100,000 Bilt points and get 100,000 Amtrak Guest Rewards. If you use it in the most ordinary way, you would expect about 2.5 – 2.7 cents per Bilt Point in value. If you use for lounge passes or upgrades, you can get more (or a lot more) value.

Keep in mind they’ll expire in 24 months without activity (a new transfer would count – as long as the partnership lasts).

Amtrak points are generally worth about 2.5 to 2.7 cents on railfare, since it’s a revenue-based redemption program, though there can be exceptions when they are more valuable.

Upgrade awards are fixed while the upgrade cost can be widely variable, so they can be a sweet spot where I’ve seen 6 cents per point in value.

For Acela, Amtrak sells a one-class upgrade coupon for 2,500 Amtrak points. That means you can book Business Class and upgrade to First Class, subject to availability, within 12 hours of departure. First Class gets you a better seat, meal and drink service, among other benefits. You can also spend the same to upgrade to Business Class on a non-Acela train.

Amtrak Metropolitan Lounges are also a sweet spot: A single-visit lounge pass costs just 1,500 Amtrak points. Amtrak currently charges $35 for a single visit at most Metropolitan Lounges and $50 at the excellent lounge inside New York’s Moynihan Train Hall.
