Choosing a small business credit card can be confusing. We’re here to make it simple.
Business-specific bonus spending categories
Larger credit lines
Minimize impact on personal credit score
Built for businesses that need to spend more than an average business, there are credit cards which have no preset spending limit.
It doesn’t mean no limit at all, but as you build history with the card and make on time payments, you will generally be allowed to charge more and more over time, giving you more flexibility.
American Express cards are the most well known for this but as you can see from the cards below, there are also offerings from Capital One.

A “no preset spending limit” powerhouse business card from Capital One. Earn 2X miles on everything.
Because small businesses tend to spend more than consumers, credit card companies are willing to offer you more incentives to sign up for their card over a another – meaning welcome bonus offers that often exceed $1,000 in value.
You’ll also need to spend more within a certain timeframe than you would on a consumer card, but if you have the spend to make anyway, this is an added bonus!
If you have a full on business with an EIN, then obviously yes, you can get a business credit card. Skip to the cards. But what if you don’t?
You do need to conduct business outside of a day job to get business credit cards. You are not eligible if you have a salaried position and no other income.
A side hustle counts. If you consult on the side, then you qualify for a business credit card. If you sell things on eBay or Craigslist, you qualify. If you sell goods or services anywhere, you qualify!
Note that if you do not have a registered business name and an EIN, you must apply in a very specific way, described below. Pay careful attention or you will be declined for a business credit card.
Your business name is your real name.
If you are “Jim Smith” on your personal credit cards, use “Jim Smith” as your business name.
Do not make up a business name!
Your Tax ID number is your
Social Security Number.
Your business income will be
the amount you make from your side business.
Do *not* include other income
(such as investment income, etc) unless it is part of your business.

YES!! We can’t believe some of the misinformation out there but every single one of the small business credit cards (which are different from corporate cards that large corporations use) require you to accept full personal liability for all charges when you apply.
While we have seen some high limits on personal credit cards, and some like the Platinum Card from American Express have no preset spending limit, but in general business credit cards will offer higher credit limits – especially if you have significant business revenue.
