What the Transfer Partner Matrix shows

A transfer partner is an airline or hotel loyalty program that a credit card rewards currency can move points into directly. This matrix shows every partner for the seven major US card currencies — American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Capital One miles, Bilt Rewards, Wells Fargo Rewards and Rove — in one grid, so you can see at a glance which cards reach a program you want and which do not. Transfer bonuses currently running are flagged, along with any partner that transfers at something other than 1:1.

Frequently asked questions

What is a credit card transfer partner?

A transfer partner is a loyalty program that accepts points moved directly from a credit card rewards currency. Instead of redeeming points through the card issuer's own travel portal at a fixed rate, you move them into the airline or hotel program and book an award there, which is usually where the outsized value is. Especially with First and Business class award travel and luxury hotel stays.

Which credit cards transfer to airline or hotel programs?

All seven currencies in this matrix have airline partners: American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, Capital One miles, Bilt Points, Wells Fargo Rewards and Rove Miles. Which airline and hotel partners each one reaches differs a lot, and that difference is often the real reason to hold one card over another. Use the AIRLINES or HOTELS filter to compare them side by side.

What is a transfer bonus?

A transfer bonus is a limited-time promotion where a card program gives you extra points for moving them to a specific partner. For example, a 30% bonus turns 10,000 points into 13,000. They come and go with little notice or promotion, so this tool shows the ones running right now. It complements our Transfer Bonus Alerts.

Do all points transfer at 1:1?

No. Most of the major partnerships are 1:1, but there are real exceptions in both directions, and a poor ratio can quietly halve what your points are worth. Any partner that transfers at something other than 1:1 is flagged in the matrix, so check the ratio before you move anything.

How long do point transfers take?

It varies by partner, from near-instant to several days. Because transfers are almost always one-way and final, the safe order is to confirm the award seat or room is actually available first, then transfer — not the other way round.

Can I transfer points back, or to another person?

Transfers out of a card program are one-way and cannot be reversed. Whether you can transfer into someone else's loyalty account depends on the card program and the partner, and the rules change — check the issuer's current terms before assuming and it's the exception, rather than the rule, to be allowed.
