Get a 15% transfer bonus when you transfer Capital One Miles to Avianca LifeMiles.

This bonus begins on August 1st at 12am ET, lasting until August 31st at 11:59 ET, and is posted on the LifeMiles website here.

We see these quite frequently (See all historical transfer bonuses to Avianca LifeMiles) and I’m going to as unenthusiastic here as always when it comes to fairly small. bonuses to LifeMiles.

Avianca has really been messing with its program lately. They’ve devalued twice in the last 9 months, although in the most recent devaluation all sorts of quirks emerged with pricing. For instance a business class ticket from the US to/from Europe could be 69,000 miles or it could be 80,000 miles.

All of the same issues I’ve always had around Lifemiles customer service remain. I don’t want to ever have to deal with a schedule change than needs a ticket reissued with them again, and sometimes the website shows phantom availability and phone agents are often unable to help after incredibly long hold times.

It’s worth knowing that miles transferred do count towards elite status with Avianca, however it’s not as easy as you’d think. At 20 miles per elite qualifying mile, to get to the Star Alliance Gold equivalent level, you’d need to transfer 480,000 miles and earn 12,000 qualifying miles on Avianca metal flights. So, it’s not easy at all. I guess this would cut.the first part by 15%…

Pros & cons

  • The annual fee is more than covered by annual credits
  • Comes with access to Capital One lounges and Landings and participating Priority Pass™ lounges
  • Authorized users also get the upgraded Hertz status like the primary card holder
  • The annual fee, while effectively negative $5 after credits, can feel like a lot.
  • Aside from bonus points for booking through Capital One Travel, there are no bonus categories. Still, all eligible purchases do earn 2X miles per dollar spent which is great.
  • Points don't transfer to any domestic airlines, although you can use other partners to book domestic award tickets on domestic airlines.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

Our review

💳 This card earns Capital One Miles. Capital One often runs transfer bonuses where you can get even more points when you transfer to airline or hotel partners at designated times. Transfer bonuses are awesome. Get 20%, 30%, 40% or more bonus miles when you transfer points at the right times. But they are easy to miss!

You can see all past Transfer Bonuses from Capital One Miles here.

The Capital One Venture X rewards credit card is an incredibly well rounded travel credit card that is easy to recommend to almost anyone. The first objection is always the annual fee, but once you see that the $300 annual travel credit and 10,000 miles anniversary bonus (worth $100 or more) nets out the annual fee, it’s much easier to go and focus on the benefits.

If you consider the annual fee to effectively be -$5 as I do based on the above though process, then you are looking a a TON of benefits for a card where you aren’t out a ton on the annual fee with nothing in return.

You’re getting Priority Pass, Plaza Premium, Capital One Lounges, and Virgin Clubhouse airport lounge access, top tier car rental status, Global Entry (or PreCheck) fee reimbursement, the ability to earn up to 10X miles on travel booked via Capital One, primary car rental CDW, cell phone protection, Extended Warranty, Purchase Protection, and travel benefits like trip delay or trip cancellation.

travel-card-capital-one-venture-x-credit-card

See, that’s a mouthful! You would expect to be paying a massive annual fee for all of that (without credits that net it out) and in this case, you’re just not. Of course, you’ll still have to pay the $395 fee upfront, but you’ll also be able to get that sweet early spend bonus offer. I think that offsets it nicely!

In my opinion, this card is simply one of the best travel cards around in terms of both benefits and value for money.
